Samuel Washburn, son of John and Sarah (Davis) Washburn, was born 1836 in Switzerland County, Indiana and died 1925 in Carroll County, Kentucky. He married Eliza Dillion Gullion in 1865 in Carroll County, Kentucky. Elizabeth was the daughter of James and Sarah (Moore) Gullion and a descendant of Patrick Gullion. Samuel was married first to Jane Webster, the daughter of Edward and Elizabeth Webster in 1863 in Carroll County, Kentucky. Samuel and Jane apparently did not have children.
Samuel worked on a river boat taking logs down the Mississippi to New Orleans earlier in his life. Samuel’s bother John also worked on a river boat on the Mississippi. John went missing while on a Mississippi River trip during the civil war and was not heard from again.
John and Eliza had eight children. The children of Samuel Washburn and Eliza Gullion were:

3. Henry Scott Washburn, born January 20, 1874; died August 12, 1899.
4. Samual Edward Washburn, born September 01, 1876 in Carroll County, Kentucky; died April 26, 1964 in Worthville, Kentucky. He married Minnie Blanche McCreary.
5. George Alvin Washburn, born April 25, 1880 in Carroll County, Kentucky; died July 02, 1963 in Carroll County Memorial Hospital, Carrollton, Kentucky. He married Maud A. Tingle.
6. Emma Jane Washburn, born August 03, 1883 in Kentucky; died November 02, 1955. She married Kirby Smith.
7. Ida Ellen Washburn, born August 15, 1884; died November 04, 1896.
8. Clarence Arnold Washburn, born January 16, 1892, in Kentucky; died March 19, 1979, in Veterans Administration Medical Center, Louisville, Kentucky. He married Elizabeth Ann Hicks June 27, 1919.
